Meet Gary Fox
Gary Fox is a lifelong resident of Waxahachie, career educator, musician, and servant leader.
Faith.
Gary grew up in the Methodist church - singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and leading the youth group. Now, he is an active member at Water Street Baptist Church, where his son serves as pastor.
Family.
Gary has been married to his wife, Teri, for 45 years. Together, they have two children (Jennifer & Justin) and three grandchildren (Landry, Luke, & Lylah). Jennifer and Justin followed in Gary's footsteps, pursuing careers in education. Jennifer has a PhD in K-16 Educational Leadership and worked at UT Arlington for 12 years before becoming a stay-at-home mom. Justin served as a teacher and coach for several years, before becoming a firefighter and pastor.
Music.
If you've been in Waxahachie for any length of time, you most likely have seen Gary and his family riding down the street, singing in one of the city parades. If you go way back, you may have seen him running the Waxahachie Opry or singing every weekend at Peel Country Steakhouse (oh, how we miss that place!). Or more recently, singing at Texas Best Smokehouse, Bluebonnet BBQ, or on the Downtown Waxahachie Square every Saturday. Gary is at his happiest when he has a guitar in his hands and his family surrounding him on stage.
Education.
Gary is a career educator, having taught for 30 years and serving in various capacities in the public school system. He has been an athletic trainer, bus driver, elementary and secondary teacher, and coach. The last 21 years of his career, he taught elementary special education - which was his true calling. After retiring from teaching, Gary served on the Waxahachie ISD School Board for 9 years as a trustee and board secretary. He is a strong advocate for public education and for Waxahachie. Gary benefited from WISD educators, starting his education at Northside in 1961 and graduating from WHS is 1973. He truly bleeds green and loves to support WISD students.
Gary holds lifetime certification from The State Board of Education in Elementary Self-Contained (Grades 1-8), Secondary Generic Special Education (Grades 6-12), Secondary Health & Physical Education (Grades 6-12), Secondary Speech (6-12), and Generic Special Education (PK-12).
Service.
Beyond his service on the WISD School Board, Gary has served as a member of the WISD Student Health Advisory Committee, IMPACT Waxahachie, the Moral Courage Foundation, and the Rotary Club Chorus. He was honored by the Woodmen of the World in 2022, receiving the "Community Leadership Award" for his service to the Waxahachie community.
What Sets Gary Apart
As an experienced educator and previous WISD School Board member, Gary Fox will be able to "hit the ground running" when elected in May. Serving as a school board trustee requires extensive knowledge in education policy, state laws, district procedures, and so much more. School board members are required to complete multiple trainings each year in order to understand their role. It realistically takes one to two years for a new trustee to feel confident in their position. Gary has served 9 years as a WISD School Board member, and thus he will be able to effectively advocate on behalf of students, staff, and taxpayers from day one.
